Joint NPHyCo - TANDEM – GEMINI 4.0 paper published!

​On 7 May 2025, a joint paper prepared by the TANDEM, GEMINI 4.0 and NPHyCo EU projects  was published in a special issue of the European Physical Journal – Nuclear Science and Technologies (EPJ N) journal. The paper was prepared in the run up to the FISA – EURADWASTE and SNETP forum event, taking place in Warsaw from 12 to 16 May.

​The paper, entitled “outcomes of three Euratom projects on cogeneration of electricity, heat and hydrogen” was drafted by TANDEM Project Coordinator Claire Vaglio Gaudard, GEMINI 4.0 Technical Project Leader Michel Pasquet, NPHyCo Project Manager Canet Serin, and Martin Glueckler, Project Manager for Hydrogen Technologies at NPHyCo partner Framatome. It deals with the assessment of low-carbon energy generation solutions (heat, electricity, hydrogen) provided by nuclear reactors within the three EU projects.
 
The publication highlights the common outcomes of the three projects, noting that all projects have found that low-carbon hydrogen production via nuclear energy is generally feasible and can be done safely. It however stresses that public policies and government support at EU and national levels is necessary, as low-carbon hydrogen production is not currently economically competitive, compared to hydrogen production from fossil sources
